This is Riaset

Ria, an electrical engineer who works at EcoFlow, posted this reset procedure in the EcoFlow Delta Facebook group. When people start noticing that their solar generator is acting funny, the first thing to try is a Riaset.

This Ecoholic's Example

I purchased my Delta Pro in March 2022 and I had never performed a Riaset because my Delta Pro was so big and I had never noticed anything strange while charging and discharging. When I added a Delta Pro Smart Extra Battery in June 2023, this is the first time I noticed some weirdness:

So, I performed my first Riaset, but it did not help. I still had the symptoms of the Delta Pro charging and discharging faster than the extra battery.

BMS Reset and fill to 100% - What was interesting was when I performed a BMS reset (power down, power up while holding the power button for 20 seconds or so) my DP changed from 100% to 70% while the EB stayed at 100%. I then proceeded to charge the Delta Pro all the way up thinking this might take awhile, but to my surprise after about 3 minutes the Delta Pro was at 100%. Something strange was going on.

Drain the batteries - I proceeded to run a portable air conditioner to drain the Delta Pro and extra battery until they powered off. Surprisingly, the batteries stayed in lockstep with each other, except about 30% off. The Delta Pro started at 70% and extra battery started at 100%. When the Delta Pro reached 1% the extra battery was at 30% at 5:03pm

At this point I realized I still had my solar panels plugged in, so I disconnected them as the solar charging was slowing down my drain to zero. At 6:15pm the pair were still happily draining, the output shows 1.14kw feeding the air conditioner, the input was 721w from the extra battery, which means even though the Delta Pro was at 1% showing only a few minutes of battery capacity left, an hour an 12 minutes later the Delta Pro was still supplying almost 400w of power from its batteries to the air conditioner.

At 6:43pm the Delta Pro is still hanging on to dear life at 1% while the extra battery is also down to 1%

I am kicking myself for neglecting to take more screenshots but eventually the extra battery shut down and the Delta Pro continued to provide power to the load for at least another 5 minutes before running out of juice and shutting down.

Filling up to 100% - I plugged the solar panels back in and spent the next two days allowing the sun to charge the the Delta Pro and extra battery back to 100%. (Side note: I go overboard trying to never charge from the grid, no need to feed it with power generated from burning coal and natural gas if I don't have to.) After this fill-drain-fill procedure the Delta Pro and extra battery now seem to share roughly half of the solar inputs to charge and both participate by supplying roughly half of the outputs to power loads.

Bottom Line

Some concluding thoughts from this endeavor:

Two months later after a software update, I saw a different problem where the Delta Pro seemed to do all the work, and the extra battery seemed to be stuck at 100% choosing not to participate at all. Resetting the BMS brought the extra battery to 80% but it refused to charge at all to 100%. I performed another Fill-Drain-Fill procedure and it seems to have rectified the situation. Several members in the Facebook Delta group have also seen the charging and discharging behavior change with the latest software update. Even though my extra battery appeared to be stuck at 80%, eventually under heavy load, it did start to participate. I was able to drain my Delta Pro to 60% and then the extra battery started to also drain. Once I saw this, to speed things up, I powered everything down, disconnected my extra battery from the Delta Pro, and ran a WAVE 1 air conditioner off of the extra battery so I didn't need to unnecessarily drain my Delta Pro in the process. Now both Delta Pro and extra battery seem to be back to normal (knock on wood).
